Do you recall those people who feared that the year 2000 would be the end of the world? Sometime before the dawn of the present millennium, many psychics and seers made their predictions about the radical transitions into the new age. A good number of fortune-tellers boldly predicted the Second Coming, the rupture, the Antichrist, an alien invasion, a pole shift, a comet hit, and some other cataclysmic event during that time. In short, the year 1999 marked the onslaught of many psychic dooms concerning the birth of new millennium.

The truth is, this is nothing new. Throughout the centuries, psychics and prophets foretold of natural upheavals and other disasters. Famous for their doomsday predictions were Nostradamus and his quatrains, Edgar Cayce and his dreams, and the more recent are Jeanne Dixon and Michael Scallion. There are countless other lesser known seers who make similar, if not more frightening forecasts, especially at the beginning of the year. In fact, each New Year sees a flurry of predictions, good and bad. The question now is how many of these predictions actually come true? More often that not, people are so engrossed with predictions that came true that they tend to overlook the many more other prophecies that failed. This just goes to show that people don't give too much importance to statistical values when it comes to predictions.

Believers should be wary though, because these doomsday predictions could be mere articulations of the collective fears of people as tapped into by the psychics and seers.
